Lighting is essential, and at the end of the day, how we light up the world matters. Whether the piece of the world you’re lighting up is your private residence or the public parking lot outside of your business, the lights that you choose will have huge impacts: on the environment, on your productivity, on safety, and (yes) on your budget. The difference between traditional and LED bulbs can be huge, but how do you know when it’s the right time to switch to them? When you find yourself facing these scenarios, it’s probably time to replace your traditional bulbs with LED lights.
Difficult To Replace
If you’ve got lights burning out that are difficult to replace, now is a good time to consider LEDs. These could be the lights way up in the fixtures above your parking lot or the fixture that illuminates your two-story foyer. If it’s hard to get to, you want to limit the number of times you have to haul out the ladder (or worse, pay to rent a cherry picker). LED lights last three times longer than conventional bulbs on average. For most LED lights, this means they last about 50,000 hours or 11 years. Wouldn’t it be nice not needing to think about those lights for 11 years?
High Utility Costs
If your utility costs are eating your budget, switching to LED lighting could help you in the long run. It’s important to note that LED lights are more expensive than traditional lights upfront. However, they offer significant savings on energy over the life of the bulb and remember that that lifespan is typically three times as long. So while you would have to shell out for traditional bulbs up to three times, you’re only buying LEDs once. On top of that, those LEDs are using about 90% less energy. That’s a lot of savings.
Environmental Concerns
Whether your concern for the environment and your personal (or business) carbon footprint is a personal thing or a matter of your brand, changing to LEDs can help you go green. From a business perspective, many people choose to use businesses that align with their personal philosophies, so if good environmental stewardship is part of your brand, switching to energy-efficient lighting should be on your to-do list.
Safety Concerns
If there is an area of your property that is prone to crime or needs more security, LED lighting could be the ideal solution. Crime rates increase in dark areas, so adding lights to your property will help improve safety and security.
