Have you ever wondered if you should use incandescent bulbs to light your building or if you should go with LED bulbs? These types of lights have many differences, and knowing the differences between them will help you determine which bulbs are right for you. Depending on the needs of your business, the type of lights you may want to install could vary. Here are some of the comparisons that can be made between LED bulbs and incandescent bulbs.
Incandescent Bulbs
An incandescent bulb is your standard, traditional light bulb. To light up, it heats up a wire filament which, when heated enough, starts to illuminate. These bulbs are fairly cheap to manufacture. As a result, they are also cheaper to purchase. The problem is that incandescent lights are highly inefficient. They have among the worst energy efficiency among light bulbs on the market. They also don’t last as long as other bulbs. They only tend to last around 1200 hours, meaning that, while they are cheap, you will have to purchase many more bulbs in the long run. This will result in higher maintenance costs and more money spent on bulbs over time.
LED Bulbs
LED bulbs are different from their incandescent counterparts in a variety of ways. To start, they have a much longer lifespan, lasting as long as 50,000 to 100,000 hours. Incandescent bulbs, by comparison, only last between 1 and 5% as long. While these bulbs cost more upfront, the longevity of these LED bulbs makes them well worth the investment.
LED bulbs are also much more energy efficient. There are a few reasons this is the case. First, they don’t waste much energy emitting heat. They also emit their light directionally, meaning that there aren’t as many losses that come from needing to redirect light. LED bulbs are also higher quality than incandescent bulbs, and don’t require as much maintenance. Since they don’t have to be replaced as often, you don’t have to constantly spend more money replacing bulbs. This will save you money in the long run. Lastly, LED bulbs can be much smaller than incandescent lights. This allows them to fit in places that incandescent bulbs may not be able to reach.
